Getting Pexels API Key

How to obtain a Pexels API key for featured image automation.

Overview

VidToArticle can also use Pexels as a source of featured images. Like Unsplash, Pexels provides a free API with its own limits. To connect it, you need a personal Pexels API key.

This guide shows you how to create a Pexels account and get the key.

1. Create or sign in to your Pexels account

  1. Go to https://www.pexels.com.
  2. Click Join or Login in the top-right corner.
  3. Sign in with email or a supported provider.

2. Open the Pexels API page

  1. While logged in, visit https://www.pexels.com/api/.
  2. Read the high-level overview of usage limits and guidelines.
  3. Click Get Started or Your API Key.

3. Request or view your API key

If this is your first time using the API:

  1. Pexels may ask you to describe how you will use the API (for example: "Automatic featured images for blog articles via VidToArticle").
  2. Submit the form.
  3. Pexels will generate an API Key for your account.

If you have used the API before:

  1. The API page will show your existing key.
  2. You can reuse this key for VidToArticle.

4. Copy your API key

  1. On the API page, locate the API Key field.
  2. Click Copy.
  3. Keep this key safe; do not share or commit it to public repositories.

5. Add the key to VidToArticle

After copying the key, follow Configuring Image Settings in the docs to:

  1. Open Settings → Image Settings in VidToArticle.
  2. Paste the key into the Pexels API Key field.
  3. Save your changes.

Once saved, VidToArticle can start using Pexels to search for relevant featured images for your generated articles.

6. Usage limits and recommendations

  • Pexels enforces daily and monthly request limits.
  • Because the key belongs to your account, those limits are applied to your usage only.
  • If you reach the limit, VidToArticle may temporarily stop requesting images from Pexels until the limit resets.

You can regenerate or revoke keys from the Pexels API dashboard if you ever suspect that your key has been exposed.
